Hooghly River Underwater Train: Kolkata East West Metro

A salt lake passing under the Hooghly river at a distance of 520 meters will connect Sector-5 with the Howrah plain.

The project will be inaugurated today on March 6, 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The trains will have a working speed of 80 km/hr and will cover half a kilometer under Hooghly in about 45 seconds.

The train will be India's first underwater metro service and will be a landmark achievement in the country's infrastructural development.
